Templo Mayor

The AM dicussion was about when and how the Aztec ruins in "El Zocalo" were discovered, then we travelled to the site.

First, we stopped at the "Casa de Gobierno" and admired Diego Rivera's murals.  There we saw an exhibition conmemorating the 200 year anniversary of the independence movement.  Then we walked to visit the "Templo Mayor" located right next to the Casa de Gobierno and behind the Catedral Metropolitana.  No words to express this extraordinary temple, so take a look a the pictures.   You can also watch some videos here  http://www.gobiernodigital.inah.gob.mx/mener/index.php?id=32

Then a short visit to the Cathedral and we ended the tour with a wonderful late lunch at the penthouse restaurant of the Holiday Inn Hotel.  This hotel overlooks the Zocalo.  Enjoy the pictures.

Inside the Templo Mayor's museum is the Premio Novel de la Paz given to Rigoberta Menchu, a Guatemalan indian woman who fought for human rights for the indigenous people.  She will not bring the prize to Guatemala because we are too racist and negate the validity of her work.
